Denice S. Pigott of Standrd Uniform
Name: Denice S. Pigott
Brand: Standrd Uniform
Established: 2018
Hometown: Houston, TX
What motivated you to start Standrd Uniform?
A sincere love for fragrance for the body and home. I wanted to introduce my audience to scent combinations they’d never experienced before.
What would you consider your hero product from your brand?
My reed diffusers are my bestsellers and hero product and I think it’s because we’ve all been burned by reed diffusers in the past. So when a customer tries one from the collection and it’s potent, it last and you can actually smell it for an extended period of time they come back and buy them in multiples. My reed diffusers are how I was introduced to Luxurious Wellniss!
What standards/non-negotiables do you take into consideration when thinking about enhancing or developing new products?
I will not skimp on my fragrance load (within compliance!). It is a non-negotiable and because of that my cost to make my products are sometimes more but the quality is undeniable. That is what sets me apart from most brands.
What do you think are some of the biggest challenges for "beauty/wellness" brands today?
I am loving what is happening within the beauty/wellness space right now. What I think is becoming more of a challenge for smaller brands is being able to stand out in the market and clearly communicate their differentiating qualities. BUT these smaller brands are giving bigger brands a run for their money! They’re able to connect with their audience in a more authentic way, build trust and a loyal following in a way larger brands are struggling to do right now.
What has been one of your proudest moments since creating Standrd Uniform?
My proudest moments are the reviews and emails I get from customers telling me how much they love the scents. I get a lot of “I’ve never smelled anything like this before in my life!”
What can we expect in the future from Standrd Uniform?
We will continue to expand our home fragrance line with a variety of new products to scent the home and introduce more scents; some limited-edition, seasonal and permanent fragrances.
What advice would you give customers who want to make the most out of your brand?
Take a chance and try a fragrance you wouldn’t normally purchase. I try to create a sensory experience with the fragrance name and description but it can be a challenge trying to get customers to buy a fragrance online that they’ve never smelled before. For instance, Saffron + Tobacco is one of my bestsellers, I can not make it fast enough but sometimes people see “tobacco” and shy away from it until they smell it and then they’re hooked on it. Try something new!
How do you start your day?
The first thing I do when I wake up is drink water. I put a bottle on my night stand the night before so I won’t forget, then I thank God for waking me up and for letting me see another day!
Do you have a morning/evening ritual?
Oh man! I am a believer in rituals. After my morning prayer and meditation I go workout, shower, apply skincare products, get dressed, take my dog outside, eat breakfast AND then start my work day.
What is your daily skincare routine?
I have acne prone skin so having a skincare routine is a must. In the morning, it’s pretty simple: cleanser, vit c serum, moisturizer and sunscreen.
My evening routine depends on the needs of my skin that day and I have a standing appointment with my esthetician who is ah-mazing!
Do you have a daily wellness routine?
I’m in the trial and error phase of building my wellness routine! I have re-committed myself to being in the best shape of my life so I am back working out regularly and creating healthier habits.
What is a beauty product or tool you can’t live without?
It’s not a product or tool but I can not live without my esthetician. I will move everything else around on my calendar before I move my appointment with her.
What do you do for R&R when you need to reboot?
I’m a water sign so being next to water rejuvenates me. When I’m in New York I will walk over to the Hudson and just sit on a bench and look out into the water for hours. Gazing into water is so calming for me, it sparks my creativity and I’m ready to go back into the world.
What are your must haves when traveling?
I am an AVID traveler and must have Global Entry, Clear, access to a lounge and noise cancelling headphones.
What selfcare advice would you have given yourself 5 years ago?
Find an activity that you enjoy to keep the body moving. I stopped dancing after college and have not consistently been active and I can feel the effect of it. All of that is changing now!
Do you have any beauty/wellness advice for our followers?
Be patient, be consistent and EVERYONE needs to wear sunscreen.
