Name: Rachael Gorjestani & Tina Hardison
Hometown: Based in San Francisco, CA
What motivated you to start?
Goldmine was inspired by our own burnout and adrenal fatigue. Being modern women who run multiple businesses, we're constantly juggling many work responsibilities, projects, and maxed out calendars and inboxes. Turns out, we weren't the only ones this stressed out! Stress is at an all time high, and has huge negative impacts on health (inside and out). We set out to offer natural ways to cope with stress, boost immunity, and overall wellness.
What would you consider your hero product from your brand?
Our hero product is the one we launched with: our everyday adaptogen blend. This is a balanced blend of 5 adaptogenic mushrooms and herbs that can be added to any daily beverage like coffee, tea, or smoothies.
What standards / non-negotiables do you take into consideration when thinking about enhancing or developing new products?
We think about a few things:
benefits — we’re a benefits focused company, so always want that to be number one when developing new products
sourcing — farming practices, sustainability, and transparency of our ingredients is top priority. If we can get an ingredient domestically, we will. And, of course, making sure each ingredient is processed correctly so our customers can reap the benefits.
taste — we’re striving for products that either can be added without changing a drink flavor too much and/or products that are delicious on their own without any added sweeteners
What do you think are some of the biggest challenges for "beauty/wellness" brands today?
There’s so many wellness brands and products now that it’s hard to stand out. How we think Goldmine is different from the rest is that we know life isn’t perfect. We know doing a face mask or drinking a turmeric latte won’t fix your life problems. We’re not trying to sell you perfection. But what we can do is encourage people to tune into themselves and do what they can, even if it’s small, to take better care of themselves.
What has been one of your proudest moments since creating Goldmine?
Honestly every time we hear “we love your product!” or “my wife is obsessed with Goldmine”— it’s a proud moment. We’re always heads down in the weeds business that any small reminder that what we’re building is having a positive impact on people’s lives is such a point of pride for us.
What can we expect in the future from Goldmine?
We’re currently working on releasing new products and flavors. We’re very excited, but can’t say too much about it right now! Stay tuned!
What advice would you give customers who want to make the most out of your brand?
Taking Goldmine every day can be an amazing reminder to tune into yourself and practice self care—whatever that means to you. Goldmine has an amazing ability to help us feel like the best version of ourselves, more be present—so use that extra space for yourself in whatever way serves you best!
How do you start your day?
Rachael — Everything is different these days... but since I’m always at home, I usually put on a kettle of water to make a raw cacao & Goldmine latte. Depending on the day, I’ll do some yoga/meditation or get right to work on my computer
Tina — Mornings are when I do my best thinking. I usually make a protein heavy breakfast with my coffee—and sit down and start writing or sketching out an idea.
Do you have a morning/evening ritual?
Rachael — I’ve been getting into guasha and really love doing it in the evenings. It’s been a nice way to relax!
Tina — Being a busy entrepreneur means it’s hard to turn my brain off at night. So I do what I can to relax and unwind—a bath, meditation, or reality television (LOL).
What is your daily skincare routine?
Rachael — I’ve been getting really into serums and oils over the last few years. My skin loves hyaluronic acid, a carrot seed oil based oil from Kaliks Collective, and my cleansing oil from Botnia Skincare
Tina —My skin isn’t too fussy (thankfully) so usually a wash + toner + some face oils do the trick (I love Mater’s Face Serum).
Do you have a daily wellness routine?
Rachael — Everyday is different, but meditation, yoga, movement, finding creative ways to drink more water, and a face mask are usually involved
Tina — Wellness can take many forms, so like Rachael it’s different every day. I try my best to listen to what my mind + body needs. Some days that means slow walks and podcasts, other days that means a high intensity workout, and other days it means calling my loved ones + cooking comfort food. There’s no one size fits all!
What is a beauty product or tool you can’t live without?
Tina — Is it cheesy to say adaptogens? They’ve honestly changed my life. I attribute adaptogens to my ability to better manage stress on the daily which has amazing impacts on sleep quality, skin, adrenals, and overall beauty inside and out.
Rachael — I second Tina! Adaptogens brought me back to life at a time where I felt totally depleted. And, at the end of the day, isn’t the true source of beauty an abundance of energy and vitality?
What do you do for R&R when you need to reboot?
Rachael — Finding time to be in nature. The sounds, the smells, the feeling of the nervous calm down, there’s truly nothing as rejuvenating to me as spending time away from computers and my feet on the earth.
Tina — I’m a huge advocate for solo personal retreats. I take one almost quarterly when I feel the burn-out coming on. Usually I retreat to the woods or to the ocean, either finding a cabin to stay in or camping out in my camper van. Nothings better than solo time in nature.
What are your must haves when traveling?
Rachael — Not that there’s much traveling right now... but I always bring my kyrgie slippers with me. Comfort is really important to me and slippers really does that for me when I travel
Tina —Rachael can attest to this—but the minute I land in a new city I have to find a bottle of natural wine to stock the fridge with. There’s something about having a nice glass of wine in a new place that makes me feel excited to be there.
What selfcare advice would you have given yourself 5 years ago?
Rachael — Cultivate and listen to your intuition.
Tina — Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Do you have any beauty/wellness advice for our followers?
Tina — Do what’s right for you, there’s no one size fits all. We’re all so busy juggling our many work + life responsibilities—that taking even a small moment in your day just for yourself can make a huge difference in your life.
Rachael — Couldn’t have said it better!
